Climate Change storm stomps on US election #Schadenfreude

I love how a US election campaign that hasn't mentioned global warming once is being impacted by a climate change Frankenstorm. Seeing as man made pollution is causing the planet to heat (a fact the right wing blogosphere in this country refuse to accept) these types of Frankenstorms will become more frequent and more powerful.

We should be introducing this storm as 'welcome to your new winter America'.

File under hashtag Schadenfreude.

The USA got massive storms before global warming. What makes this storm so dangerous is because it has coincided with a full-moon and a high tide not to mention the fact it will hit two other fronts coming in from the other direction.
To say 'it's global warming' is far too simple.

And I disagree.

Physicist Paul Beckwith explains here how this ‘Frankenstorm’ is a result of anthropogenic climate change:

” All storms veer to the right in the northern hemisphere due to the spinning of the earth (1 revolution per day). Except when there is a tilted high pressure region northward and it has to go left and there is a massive low pressure region left that sucks it there as well.
Why the high pressure ridge and massive low pressure? Because the jet stream is wavier and slower, a situation that is happening more and more often, because of massive sea ice decline this summer. Which is due to Arctic amplification feedbacks. Which in turn is due to rising greenhouse gases. Which is due to humans.” ‘

That explains the direction but the full moon and the two winter storms were not caused by global warming. I don't deny global warming but to say this storm is a direct result of global warming is false as several factors are outside of global warming, namely the two other winter fronts and the full-moon/high-tide.

Hurricanes existed before AGW.

yawn, and will after AGW.

TC, your objection is a strawman .

Bomber used the word frequency in the post. Read what he actually wrote.

This storm MIGHT be further evidence of climate change (which is clearly happening), but I still don't see how in any way shape or form it is PROOF of AGW. Correlation is not, and never will be, causation. Something all you arm-chair scientists continually ignore. There is ZERO irrefutable evidence of AGW - especially given far, far, far more drastic climate change (including CO2 spikes far exceeding anything we see today, much hotter periods and ice ages) events in Earth's very, very long history. Human's simply have not been measuring GLOBAL climate in the detail we see today to make any definitive conclusions about such short time frames. Still a sceptic.

Nitrium, you clearly don't understand the implications of the science either and my observation above to TC applies to you as well.
But if you want to argue with the voices in your head, go ahead.

K Trenberth on Hurricane/storm Sandy:

In many ways, Sandy resulted from the chance alignment of several factors associated with the weather. A human influence was also present, however...
These physical factors associated with human influences on climate likely contribute to more intense and possibly slightly bigger storms with heavier rainfalls. But this is very hard to prove because of the naturally large variability among storms. This variability also makes it impossible to prove there is no human influence. Instead, it is important to recognize that we have a “new normal,” whereby the environment in which all storms form is simply different than it was just a few decades ago.

Which is EXACTLY what I'm saying (or trying to say)! I am NOT saying that human's are definitively NOT involved in climate change (I can't PROVE that to you any better than anyone can PROVE the opposite). That is all what being an AGW sceptic is. I am not, repeat, not a DENIER, as much as you might want to label me as such.

Interestingly, the coming of super-storms was predicted as a consequence of Global Warming.

With warmer temperatures in oceans and atmosphere, we get more energy in storms. More energy = more violence.

People can argue this till the cows, sheep, llamas, etc, come home...

Meanwhile, the storms will continue to get worse.

The irony of this is that most climate change gases were produced by our American cuzzies. This is truly Karma - with a kick.
