Paula Bennett winning Waitakere back is like being given a wrapped empty ipad2 box for Christmas

As the ever clever Graeme Edgler points out, in the wacky world of laws that deal with politics, the focus is on a result rather than picking who wins, and in the bowel ends of such law is something called an election petition. It costs $50 000 but it would allow Carmel Sepuloni to challenge Paula's majority in a way a simple recount can't and if Paula loses that, then she loses the seat legally, not proportionately, that means Labour would gain an electorate seat and hold onto a list seat with National losing one without gaining from the list, meaning National would not have a majority to pass legislation without the help of the Maori Party, meaning NO state asset sales.

The hilarity that would cause. It's enough to keep me giggling throughout the Summer if it were to happen.

When you wish upon a star
Makes no difference who you are
Anything your heart desires
Will come to you

If your heart is in your dream
No request is too extreme
When you wish upon a star
As dreamers do

Fate is kind
She brings to those who love
The sweet fulfilment of
Their secret longing

Go Carmel, GO!

$50,000 for a recount... this is why we cannot have nice things.

Talking about Paula Bennett, she has again hit the nail on the head with her eloquent outburst against critics of CYPS & their handling of the recent child abuse case. It is not the responsibility of Paula & her underlings to protect vulnerable children, it is the responsibility of the parents and if the said parents neglect their duties – what can Paula do? The same argument can be applied to all Govt. departments such as MAF. If invasive insects get into the country to destroy say the apple industry – it is not MAF’s fault – it is the fault of the parents of the insects and MAF officials should rail against any criticism of their failures and rightly point the finger at the parents of all insects. Good on you Paula for refusing to carry the can for errant parents of both children and insects. Keep up the good work Paula & concentrate on things that really matter like catching dishonest beneficiaries & figuring out ways to punish them. Leave the little kiddies with their families until the parents finally come to their senses.

No, no Paula. On TV1 this am, Paula weakened & admitted that ‘at some level’ CYPS may have responsibility for the child abuse scandal. But thankfully she rallied again & denied the Ombudsman’s irresponsible claim that such cases arise because of the systematic failure of Govt. agencies & cleverly refocussed all responsibility on the devious & manipulative behaviour of the parent. It is not Paula’s responsibility to interfere, it is her job to ensure that multi-coloured papers are written & discussed so that some time in the future, maybe in 10 years time, devious & cruel parents will have had time to reconsider & moderate their behaviour. By that time too, some of the kiddies will have reached adulthood & will become better parents because of their own experience -all without wasting Paula’s time & money. Keep strong Paula & keep addressing the important issues.
