China trade deal excellent say Nats

China trade deal excellent say Nats
The free trade agreement with China, due to be signed next month, is an excellent deal, says National Party trade spokesman Tim Groser. Mr Groser, a former senior trade negotiator, is among those who have been briefed confidentially on the agreement.

I saw Murry McCully on TV last night endorsing the free trade deal with China and complimenting Labour for it – I’m sorry, but when the Dark Lord of the Sith is out supporting Helen Clark, I can’t help but gag. Why are we signing a deal that China insists MUST include us taking their immigrants when they are committing a ‘cultural genocide’ in Tibet? Tibetans are fighting the enforced immigration from Han Chinese being sent en masse into Tibet, where as we are signing deals to allow that very thing to occur.

Explain how pointing out that China has attached immigration to a free trade deal suddenly makes me a xenophobe? Are the Tibetans xenophobes as well? EVERYONE in NZ has immigrated here at some stage so claiming I'm a xenophobe is just distasteful and pretty weak, but then again they are anonymous posts, which tend to be pretty weak and distasteful at the best of times.

I think thats the yellow peril your referring to as the red menace means the russians. And as to their desirability having hot russian mail order brides and female chinese students could improve the genepool.

So get rid of anonymous posts.

Oh, thats right, it's not your blog, and the blogs owner has no qualms about anonymous posters.

Get your own blog bomber, or else suck it up.

Btw, comparing what is happening in Tibet to the trade deal we have with China is pathetic.

Oh yeah, we can switch off anon posts, I'll bring it up with Tim, thank you for pointing that out, I agree there shouldn't be anonymous posts - how is comparing what is happening in Tibet to the trade deal pathetic?

Bomber, are you saying that what has happened in Tibet is what is going to happen in NZ with the trade deal?

Are Han Chinese going to move en masse to NZ, sieze NZ sovereignity, and claim NZ as China?

Pathetic, xenophobic rantings.

Btw, Tim doesn't mind anonymous posts, and as this is his blog, not yours, then will have to suck it up. But be honest, its not the anonymousness that you don't like, it's the fact that people don't agree with you.

Bomber, go read/talk to a Tibe expert, there is no cultural genocide in Tibet. Tibet's culture is as healthy as it has been in the last century

Tibet's culture is not as healthy as it has ever been. Talking to Tibetans, they are worried that their culture is under threat from the immigration into Tibet. An example of this is that Tibetan language is now a minority language in its own country. Immigration itself is not a bad thing, but immigration into Tibet is being used systematically to destroy Tibetan culture and outnumber Tibetans in their own country so that they'll be less able to challenge the Chinese Govt's authority. NZ is a completely different situation, and Chinese immigrants, like any immigrants, can be of and often are of great benefit to our society, even not counting the hotness of Chinese girls. However, in signing the Fair trade deal with China, despite what China is doing in Tibet, NZ is acting as though human rights are irrelevant or secondary to trade. Not just Tibetan human rights, but the human rights of many Chinese are disregarded or abused by the Chinese government, and perhaps this should be a consideration when signing the FTA.

Emily,

In that case, who would do a FTA with NZ, who trample on Maori human rights in regards to the Foreshore and Seabed act.

Name me one country who has an unblemished human right record that NZ can trade with?

How so? How is pointing out the mass colonization of Tibet and the attempt to insert immigration concessions into free trade agreements suddenly makes me pathetic and xenophobic? You sound touchy? Raw Nerve at all?

Btw, Tim doesn't mind anonymous posts, and as this is his blog, not yours, then will have to suck it up. But be honest, its not the anonymousness that you don't like, it's the fact that people don't agree with you.

No it is OUR blog and we have both agreed that the anonymous posts make debating the point difficult and that you should have the balls to put a name to your posts, if I didn’t like non-agreement as much as you suggest, I’d just delete your post now wouldn’t I?

Bomber, go read/talk to a Tibe expert, there is no cultural genocide in Tibet. Tibet's culture is as healthy as it has been in the last century

That’s not what the Dalai Lama has to say, and I’d kinda call him an expert on Tibet, wouldn’t you?

This is a government that describes the Dalai Lama as a 'gangster' and a war monger, yes I think one should show concern towards China and their enforced immigration policy as well, does that make me a xenophobe as well?

bill,

If you think a FTA agreement with China will have us swamped by Chinese immigrants who will take our jobs, and have NZ resembling Tibet, then yes you are xenophobic.

"It's OUR blog."

There is the raw nerve.

God I hate anonymous posters, they are so gutless, explain how enforced immigration via the FTA in NZ would be different from enforced immigration in Tibet anonymous poster? Certianly one is much more subtle, but your claims of xenophabia towards a country currently acting out a cultural genocide suggests the raw nerve is very one sided here.

Ummm, just reading one of bombers blogs above, Good on the Herald for actually pursuing this story, as Air NZ has ducked and dived and attempted to bury the fact they are treating Chinese workers so much worse than their NZ counterparts and it has created the ill feeling of a sweat shop in the sky, Air NZs claim that it’s the company they hire to get Chinese staff who are at fault is just a farce, and it is unacceptable to pay people less for the same job based on their race or their desperate financial situation, that’s called exploitation Air NZ.

Could you explain how xenophobic bomber is now?
