HOLD THAT CHIN UP HIGH KIWI!

News that we are a nation of callous pricks that allow people to die from having unpaid electricity bills is worldwide news! Hold that chin up high Kiwi!

NZ police probe power cut death
A New Zealand woman on an oxygen machine died after an energy firm switched off her power supply because of unpaid bills, her family claims. Folole Muliaga, a 44-year-old mother of four, died within two hours of the electricity being switched off at her home in the northern city of Auckland. Police said they were investigating the circumstances of Mrs Muliaga's death. The power company, Mercury Energy, said it had been unaware any disconnection would put her life at risk. Relatives of Mrs Muliaga, a schoolteacher, said she had been off work since February with a heart and lung condition. Because of this, the family claim, she had fallen behind with her energy bills.

The family claim to have told the electricity worker about the need for power, Mercury Energy say they didn't. Meanwhile the electricity worker is off work on stress leave and receiving counselling.

Will be interesting to see what the investigation shows.

Very sad news.

Yeh sad but then why did the family not pay the bill in the first place. Far too much blameing others for there own misfortune. Why have Sky TV and all those cars if they cannt afford to pay the power. OOOhps is that being far too sensible. And what about the Jerk speaking on TV news last night why didnt he and the others pay the bill.
They where lucky to be living in a country with power unlike where they came from where there is none and prbably no Oxygen machine in the first place or benefits to live off. Get real and look at the real picture.

Really smart, anonymous - not. We're living in a great country where you can be an old injured lady lying in a ditch and no one helps you, or a sick woman who relies on her oxygen machine to survive but the power people cut her power off for owing them $169. That sort of society and people's mentality is really something to be proud of, especially when the news goes around the world.
God forbid should I ever need help from anyone but my family.
Makes one feel sick!

Without wanting to assign blame to either party without hearing the full story why didn't she simply go to a neighbours or call an ambulance when she realised the power had been switched off? She had two hours.

At least that prat Mallard has finally said somthing sensible:

"State Owned Enterprises Minister Trevor Mallard also warned against pre-judging the outcome.

"I do think it is important that the facts are established before people rush to judgement," he said."

A suggestion to Mr Bomber.

Reserve your judgement until all the evidence is in.

When you have been around a while you learn to never assume.

heard an interesting rumour that Mercury Energy's PR people are rushing around the blog sites posting up 'hey let's wait till the facts come out' posts attempting to dampen the rightous fury that should be vomited upon Mercury, isn't that sick? Having to be a little pleb at a big PR firm having to post up comments trying to justify corporate murder

Oh Bomber rumours really what a joke. Do you really believe that you are so important in high places, actually I think you do. I might be a loser like you but at least I am not delusional.

Anyway I thought you were the big one on justice, don't all the players deserve a fair 'trial', I don't get why it is so unreasonable to suggest people wait for more evidence. I also thought you liked murderers, if people are found guily of murder lets hope they go to rehab instead of prison cause prison will only make them worse won't it Mr Bomber.

I don't why should a private business be in charge of social services. These people (and many more) don't have enough income to live on, is it the role of a private company to deal with that. Should supermarkets allow people to steal food if they can't afford to buy it, should all private companies give free goods and services to those who can't afford to pay or should Helen increase benefits so people have an acceptable income.

There was always going to be a price to pay for privatising infrasture and basic services.

PS: Did dear Helen ever reverse the benefit cuts Jenny brought in ?????

PPS: I don't believe higher benefits and wage subsidies are the answer either but the problem here goes much deeper than this event and it is not the role of private companies to engineer society or solve social problems.

No Mr Bomber they are about sad, self-important wanabees, the real impotent losers. I feel your frustration, so much briliance so little achievement.

No-one cares who I am, they are much to busy thinking about you. Your quest for fame is your right, I don't need 15 minutes so you can have mine as well if you like.

Bomber the self-proclaimed holder of all knowledge and all that is right and good. Ever tried being a little self-effacing Bomber.

Your abuse (hardly the behaviour one would expect from someone so superior and educated) debases you more than your targets, raise you game and address the real points.

lol - so much bitterness in one single post on a blog about the fact news of what Mercury Energy did has gone around the world - did you even address that point or was it anonymous personal attacks that were the point of your posting? Yawn, I'll take your 15minutes because you are wasting them so much, but as for this post...

Them South Auckland blacks look like the losers to me, funny though Bomber likes them. Rather like Helen her like them best at a safe distance, they give him something to feel important about.

...I actually bet this guy believes this. This post wins 'great leap backwards' post of the day!
